The title of this
book, Repasemos y Continuemos, is very much indicative of its
intended purpose. It is designed for students who, having already been
introduced to the fundamentals of Spanish grammar, wish to enhance their
knowledge and reach the next level of understanding. Throughout the book,
the goal is to take intermediate students back to a point in their
understanding of Spanish grammar where they feel comfortable and then to
proceed to a point well beyond where they began. By moving from the known to
the unknown, students gain a broader and deeper understanding of the
material presented without feeling overwhelmed or threatened by the
process.
The purpose of this book is very narrow. It is
designed to enhance the intermediate student’s understanding of Spanish
grammar by providing an opportunity to analyze and discuss grammar in a more
detailed way than is generally possible in classes which emphasize mastery
of all four skills. It is intended to supplement other materials, methods,
and activities used in the classroom. It is not designed to build oral
proficiency except indirectly by improving grammatical competence. Its
target audience is post-secondary Spanish students who are involved in a
well-rounded language program that provides diverse opportunities for
hearing, reading, writing, and speaking the language. In short, this book
is intended to be used as one element of a multi-faceted approach to
language learning.
